Another response to the draft of the opening Holiday letter:

We had a scare with my life partner’s mom.

From what I heard, they’re still collecting information about what happened. Apparently, all the elderly residents were headed to dinner. My mom-in-law was walking down the hallway when she saw her friend Evelyn in a wheelchair. My mom-in-law decided to push her wheelchair to help her, right? But then this other woman, Ethel—so there’s Evelyn in the wheelchair, and then Ethel, a friend—stepped in. Ethel pushed my mom-in-law. My mom-in-law fell, cracked her skull, and had to be taken to the ER. I think Ethel was trying to defend her friend from being pushed, because initially, my mom-in-law was overstepping her boundaries by pushing Evelyn’s wheelchair even though Evelyn didn’t want her to.

While we wait on my mom-in-law’s status, I said to my life partner that I’m afraid my mom-in-law is going to fall under our watch—or under my watch—especially if I’m alone with her. I told them, ā€œI can’t be alone with your mom-in-law. You have to understand that.ā€ Now that it’s more real, knowing she could just fall like that… it scares me.

I explained that the reason I’m afraid she’ll fall under our watch is that I’m afraid their siblings will hate me… (to be continued for TFAW PenPals…)
